online resources for technology entrepreneursThere’s a new online resource for technology startups in Victoria, BC, and all across Canada: Startup Canada has officially launched its beta site, and Vancouver Island Technology Park and the University of Victoria are proud to be partners.

This beta site is the result of nine months of synchronized efforts by a passionate community of over 250 entrepreneurial volunteers connected through online and virtual channels across the country.

Enhance entrepreneurship, increase prospertity
Startup Canada itself is a grassroots, entrepreneur-led, national movement aimed at enhancing Canada’s competitiveness and prosperity by advancing and celebrating Canadian entrepreneurship.

The new website features the Startup Canada Blog, powered by 14 of Canada’s most influential bloggers on entrepreneurship. The site itself will provide the community with the support, tools and resources it needs to fuel the movement, celebrate entrepreneurship and get involved, including:

  •  – Speakers Corner:  share your video message on how to create the necessary conditions for Canadian entrepreneurs to succeed
  • – ideasWiKi: a repository of ideas, expertise and information related to entrepreneurship in Canada
  • – Idea Loop: share your idea for helping entrepreneurship
  • – An active and growing communities on TwitterFacebook and LinkedIn

Other site highlights include a DailyWiREWeekly Update, and NewsRoom that will keep the community constantly informed and engaged.

Building  a national community of technology entrepreneurs
This month, Startup Canada is also launching the country’s first national entrepreneurship tour and campaign. The tour spans every province from Prince Edward Island to British Columbia; run from March to September, 2012; and, will engage 25,000 Canadians and 250 partner organizations across 30 Town Halls, 100 Fringe Events, and a Social Media Groundswell Campaign.

British Columbia’s red hot advanced technology sector will play host to the tour for much of September. Stay tuned to this blog or the Startup Canada website for more information. In the meantime, find out more about the tour here.

Startup Canada’s goal between now and December 2012 is to fuel a groundswell, grassroots, entrepreneur-led movement to bring together Canada’s entire entrepreneurship community to create a shared vision for the future, and an action plan for change. The beta site is the first step.
