VIATeC has announced the VIATeC 25 for 2007. The VIATeC 25 is an annual listing of the largest technology companies headquartered or founded on Vancouver Island, based on revenue, and is sponsored by KPMG.

The 2007 VIATeC 25 have combined estimated calendar 2007 revenues of $866 million, for an average of $34.6 million in annual revenues, a 9% increase over 2006 revenues. These 25 companies are currently employing 2474 staff, an increase of 71% over the first VIATeC 25 survey conducted in 2004.

“Just a few short years ago, the size of our local technology sector was in question. These top 25 companies have played a key role in having our sector’s revenues exceed $1.7 billion, making technology the number one private revenue producing industry in Greater Victoria,” said VIATeC Executive Director Dan Gunn.

“The advanced technology sector in our region has shown dramatic growth in both revenues and employment outpacing the provincial average for over a decade. These results further demonstrate that our sector has come of age and is firmly established as one of the lynch pins of our local economic future,” said Gunn.

The 2007 VIATeC 25 Survey asked technology companies founded or based on the Island for their revenues and the number of employees for 2007, as well as estimated revenues and staffing levels for 2007.

“The annual VIATeC 25 list of the region’s top technology companies is an important way to track growth, recognize the achievements of Island companies, and demonstrate to potential employees, investors, customers and the general public the impact and importance the advanced technology sector has on the economy of Vancouver Island,” said VIATeC Executive Director Dan Gunn.
